“The Narrows” House. 1564 square feet, plus 90 square feet covered porch. Two full stories. Narrow footprint suited to “infill” lots. Three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms. Ground floor: entry vestibule, half bath, laundry space, kitchen, dining space, sitting space, master suite with bathroom. Upper floor: two bedrooms, full bathroom, den/playroom/study.

Sometimes the best place to build is an “infill” lot in in an existing neighborhood, often with narrow street frontage. We designed this home to sit well on such lots. It’s long and narrow with a sheltering entry porch, an open plan and master suite on the ground floor, and an upstairs “realm” with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and space for playing, studying, or working. The upper floor is easily adapted to other uses. Sometimes there are real advantages in “sticking to the straight and narrow."
