Our office is a version of this design, an energy-efficient small studio that David built. While building the office, we realized that it should adapt to other uses someday, so we designed it to become a one-bedroom cottage. In this design there’s also a code-compliant spiral stair to an attic with an “egress” window, a potential second sleeping area. The south-facing roof can hold enough solar panels for a large contribution to the home’s energy use. This would be a fine small home for singles or couples, an accessory dwelling, vacation home, or guest house.
