“And Then Some” House
“And Then Some” House. 1986 square feet. One and a half stories. Ground floor wheelchair accessible. Four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms. Ground floor: entry vestibule, accessible suite with accessible bathroom, kitchen, dining space, sitting space with hearth, den/office, half bath. Upper floor: two bedrooms, full bathroom, laundry space, master suite with bathroom and walk-in closet.
Did you know that about 20 percent of U.S. households are multi-generational? Grandparents, parents, and children under one roof – and the trend is rising. We designed this home as another challenge to ourselves: could we configure a livable, graceful, energy-efficient three-bedroom family home with a wheelchair-accessible bedroom suite for aging in place – and still keep the floor area under two thousand square feet? Could there be enough solar panels to make “Zero Net Energy” possible? We were delighted to discover that we could. Millions of Americans live in multi-generational homes. Perhaps this could be one of them.
