Smaller unit: about 750 square feet, two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, entry vestibule, kitchen, dining/sitting space, laundry space. Larger unit: about 1150 square feet, three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, entry vestibule, kitchen, dining space, sitting space, den/office, laundry space.
“Better Together Than Apart.” Often true. A duplex offers real possibilities: rental income, a place for adult children, a dwelling and a workplace, and many more. A well-insulated party wall actually provides more privacy than ten or twenty feet of open space between two freestanding homes. We designed this duplex as a challenge to ourselves: could we design a livable, practical, three-bedroom AND two-bedroom home in less than two thousand square feet? Could there be enough solar panels on the roof to approach “Zero Net Energy”? Mission accomplished. Either of these units could also be configured as a stand-alone home.
